On the night of Epiphany, our team gathered for dinner and a call with our friend Elena in Nicaragua to share prayer and updates. We are trying again to negotiate a visit to Minnesota from leaders in Teustepe and should find out in the coming weeks what is possible.
During the conversation, we were all reminded of the continued struggle of families who mourn the kidnappings, arrests and killings of those who are speaking out for justice in the country they love. Team members wrote brief notes of solidarity that would be translated and given to families living with this violence. One example:
To our brothers and sisters in Nicaragua:
My heart is heavy as news of the imprisoned and the disappeared and the killed in your country continues to reach us here in Minnesota. I cannot know what it feels like to wake each morning and know that someone you love so much is not with you. But I can keep your struggle in my mind and heart. I can find ways to share news of what is happening in Nicaragua with our parishioners here in Minnesota. I am praying for you as you continue to live, work and pray in the midst of what is happening in the country you love. We are all part of one human family and so we grieve with you. May God uphold you with strength and with courage! Peace to you!
Will you join us in praying for Nicaragua each night at 7:00? Reminder magnets can be found at the Information Desk across from the Parish Office. Thank you for your prayerful support of our brothers and sisters!
