The past couple of weeks in this space I have been talking about ways to embrace the spirit of the season that go beyond the usual shopping for a gift. Some of you have let me know that you appreciate the hints – that’s great.
Here’s one more: rather than buy someone a gift at a store or online, why not consider gifting them with an experience, instead? Last week, I mentioned that time is among the most valuable things one can give. When you give an experience, you affirm that fact. How about giving a homemade card that includes an invitation to a lunch at a restaurant you’ve been meaning to try? How about an IOU for a stroll in the park on a crisp, sunny day that ends with some cocoa and cookies or a glass of wine in your living room? The point is that spending some dedicated time with someone you care about is far more valuable than anything you might find at Macy’s.
Enjoy the season – and the people you are blessed to have in your life!
