In 2017 Amanda Gorman was named the first Youth Poet Laureate in America. Now 20 years old, she is a junior at Harvard and has been published widely. If you have not yet heard her read some of her work, don’t wait – it’s beautiful and mesmerizing. Follow this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhsvnLgLZfA. If you are not a YouTube kind of person, here is an excerpt from the poem The Miracle of Morning. It’s beautiful.
While we might feel small, separate and all alone
Our people have never been more closely tethered.
The question isn’t if we will weather this unknown
But how we will weather this unknown together.
We ignite not in the light but in the lack thereof,
For it is in loss that we truly learn to love.
This week, I invite you to consider if there are ways you have felt more closely tethered during this past year. Are there ways you have been able to learn to love more deeply through the losses you have weathered?
May this new year bring us strength and love and light.
