Food Shelf Garden - History

The Guardian Angels Food Shelf Garden, located northwest of the main parking lot, was started in 1995 by two Guardian Angels Church members: Maggie Lindberg and Barb Prokop. It began as a half acre plot and is now a ¾ acre fenced garden with a water supply and walking paths throughout the garden. An accessibility garden is outside the fence.

The purpose of the garden is to provide fresh produce to local food shelves and shelters that serve the communities on the east side of the metropolitan area. The garden is coordinated by a team of knowledgeable gardeners and uses organic gardening techniques. Annual harvests typically amount to over 10,000 pounds of produce a season.
