June brings on warm weather, summer activities and a good time to look at tips for sun safety, staying hydrated, being mindful of outdoor activities and taking precautions when engaging in sports or recreational activities.

Helpful tips sun safety:

  • Apply broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher at least 30 minutes before outdoor activity.
  • Reapply sunscreen every two hours especially after swimming or sweating.

Helpful tips for hydration:

  • Drink plenty of fluids, especially water throughout the day. Consider electrolyte drinks if exercising for extended periods.

Helpful tips for outdoor activities:

  •  Supervise children closely around water and in playgrounds.
  • Be mindful of potential hazards like grills, matches and fireworks especially around children. 

Helpful tips of sports and recreation:

  • Warm up before exercise and cool down afterward.
  • Wear appropriate protective gear like helmets when riding a motorcyle, ATV, or bicycle.

Helpful tips for heat acclimation:

  • Gradually increase physical activity in the heat to allow your body to adapt.
  • Drink plenty of fluids and consider electrolyte replacelment drinks.
  • Take breaks in the shade and avoid strenuous activity during peak hours.

NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN OR PETS IN AN UNATTENDED CAR.
