Missionary Opportunities
Missionaries of the Poor (M.O.P.) welcomes US citizens to serve as lay volunteers at several of their international care centers. The most popular and well-established overseas missions for immersion and service are Kingston, Jamaica, Nairobi, Kenya, and Cebu City, Philippines.
Top M.O.P. Overseas Missions
- Kingston, Jamaica: The headquarters and birthplace of M.O.P. Volunteers assist the Brothers in caring for severely disabled children, the homeless, and the abandoned elderly.
- Nairobi, Kenya: Offers a deeply immersive cultural experience where volunteers work alongside the Brothers to serve marginalized and vulnerable populations in the region.
- Cebu City, Philippines: A heavily requested mission location featuring a large community where volunteers help in care centers for orphans, the terminally ill, and the elderly.
Volunteer Experience & Requirements
- Daily Routine: Volunteers share in the monastic community’s daily schedule, which includes morning and evening prayer, the Rosary, and daily Mass.
- Duties: Tasks are supervised by the Brothers and typically include bathing, feeding, changing, and spending quality time with the residents.
- Accommodations: Volunteers are usually housed in on-property MOP guest houses.
