Honoring Fathers on Father's Day

Posted by Father Joe Connelly on

This weekend, we celebrate Father's Day and give thanks to God for the gift of fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, and all those men who have embraced the vocation of spiritual fatherhood.

Fatherhood is more than a role or title—it is a sacred calling. In the Scriptures, we see that a father's mission is to reflect the love, protection, guidance, and sacrifice of God the Father. Whether changing diapers, coaching a team, providing for a family, teaching the faith, or simply being present, fathers help reveal God's loving care in countless ways.

The example of St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, reminds us what true fatherhood looks like. Joseph was a man of quiet strength, deep faith, and courageous obedience. He protected and provided for the Holy Family, not through power or prestige, but through humble service and trust in God's plan. Every father can find inspiration in his example.

We also recognize that Father's Day can bring mixed emotions. Some mourn fathers who have died, others carry wounds from difficult relationships, and some long for the gift of fatherhood. As a parish family, we hold all these intentions in prayer and ask the Lord to bring comfort, healing, and hope.

This Father's Day, let us thank the fathers who have shaped our lives and pray for all men called to this vocation. May they be strengthened by God's grace to lead their families with wisdom, integrity, and faith. And may St. Joseph intercede for all fathers, helping them to become ever more faithful reflections of our Heavenly Father.

Happy Father's Day to all our fathers and grandfathers. Be assured of our prayers and gratitude.

In Christ,

Fr. Joe Connelly
