Respect Life - Legislative Proposal on End-of-Life Options

Posted by on

End-of-Life Options: This concept is often referred to as "Physician Assisted Suicide" or similar title, sometimes as "Patient Directed Suicide." No matter one's point of view of the issue, it's important to understand the topic.

The Mn proposal is virtually the same as the Oregon legislation from 1997 and subsequent amendments.

  • Requires 2 clinicians (at least one MD or DO) to agree patient criteria is met.
  • Does not compel any provider, pharmacist, nursing staff to participate.
  • Patient must have decisional capacity (no clinical depression or mental illness)
  • Patient must be capable of self-administration of medication.

We offer this information for understanding the issue, the proposed legislation and perspective of the Mn Medical Association.

I have attached the MMA statement and the MN proposed bill.
