Thought for the Week
For the past few years, I have kept a small note at my desk that I received from an old friend.
It says this:
They tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds.
The note refers to a sign we saw in Mexico one winter. It was hanging on the wall of a tiny church in Playa del Carmen next to a photo of now-saint Oscar Romero. Romero once said that he did not believe in death without resurrection and that if he was killed, he would rise in the hearts of the Salvadoran people.
I thought of that note as we celebrated resurrection here at Guardian Angels and I wondered what sprouts of life the coming year would bring. This week, I invite you to think about ways in which you might have been buried this past year. Under stress? Under the death of a loved one? Under financial worries? Under the weight of a broken relationship? They tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds.
What sprouts of life do you long for this Easter Season?
How can you make them grow?
