Volunteer Opportunities at Guardian Angels
Loaves and Fishes
Help prepare and serve the evening meal at Dorothy Day Center on the 2nd Sunday of the Month. Join a team and help out 3 times per year. Contact Chris or Jim Judge, 731-3305.

Christian Cupboard
Represent Guardian Angels on the Board of Christian Cupboard and Justice and Outreach Commission. Christian Cupboard is the area food shelf serving our parish. It is located at Woodbury Lutheran Church. Other opportunities include assisting with delivering food from Guardian Angels to the Food Shelf and volunteer opportunities at Christian Cupboard. 

Giving Center
Volunteers are needed to manage the Giving Center, organizing donations and ensuring prompt pick up by recipient organizations.  Also volunteers are needed to organize a “Caring and Sharing” Board that would list job opportunities and items to be donated to families in need.

Volunteer Opportunities with Youth:
Children’s Tutor
One to one tutoring for second or third grade students in reading and math. Participate on Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday from 3:30 to 5:15 P.M. October- May. One or two times per week. Training provided by Building Blocks Tutorial Program in Ramsey County.

Mentor a Child
Support a youths resolve to change. Make an investment of your time and talent in the life of a troubled youth. Develop a positive, committed relationship with a County Home School of Minnetonka resident as a mentor, friend and positive role model. Involve the youth in a variety of activities and increase his/her awareness of educational, cultural, recreational and career opportunities.

Mentor a Child
Kids ‘n Kinship matches children who have a need for an additional supportive relationship with screened adult volunteers. Activities might include attending sporting events, games, crafts, being outdoors, or just hanging out together. Volunteers make a one year, 1- 4 hours per week commitment in Dakota County.

Cultural Initiatives Assistant/Leader
Girl Scouts of MN and WI River Valleys is seeking adult role models to help break down barriers that may keep girls from participating. They have four culturally specific initiatives (Hmong, Latina, Muslim and African American), aimed at mentoring underrepresented girls. Assist staff by working with youth and children in various activities. Most troops are within Minneapolis.

Physically Active Volunteer Opportunities:
Courage Center Community Living Driver
Clients of Courage Center Transitional Rehabilitation Program in Golden Valley are preparing to move back into the community, drivers are needed to transport them to appointments in the Courage Van. Qualifications: clean driving record, valid driver’s license, physically limber, enjoys working with people with physical disabilities. Training provided. Insured under Courage Center. Flexible weekdays.

Fitness Volunteers Needed!
Join Vision Loss Resources Walking Groups once a week for some ‘Mall-Walking’ at either the Southdale Mall or Downtown St. Paul! This is a great chance to meet new people while getting some exercise and giving back to the community with a flexible schedule.

Coach (Youth Athletic Teams)
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board needs volunteer coaches for a variety of seasonal youth sports programs. Current needs are for basketball, wrestling and hockey coaches.

Other Volunteer Opportunities:
Book Promoter
Assist Cheerful Givers of Minnesota in promoting the new book “A Glove of Their Own” which follows an underprivileged group of kids whose lack of equipment doesn’t hamper their love of baseball. Search the web for sites or blogs that might promote the book and/or use contacts of your own. Work from your home/office with flexible hours.

Goodwill Bridal Event Prep
Help hang, steam and bag bridal dresses leading up to Goodwill/Easter Seals Minnesota second annual Bridal Showcase event! Volunteers should be able to handle delicate dresses and able to steam them (don’t worry, we provide all the training). Daytime, evenings, and weekends through February 21, 2009. Individuals or groups.

Friendship Mentor
Participate in a mentorship program with Guild Incorporated that will benefit an adult who experiences depression, anxiety or another psychiatric disability. Your time will help your new friend stay active, improve their health and fulfill their dreams. Ramsey and the northern part of Dakota Counties.
