Retreads
You are invited to join the Guardian Angels Retreads!
Purpose: The Guardian Angels Retreads first met on January 12, 1979. The group was formed to strengthen friendship among its members as well as to enjoy spiritual, educational, and social activities with each other. Just coming together is a good time!
Membership: Membership in the group is open to anyone 55 years and older.
The group began with 22 members.
Now there are over 95 members from 8 Catholic Parishes,
1 Presbyterian Church, 1 Methodist Church and 1 Lutheran Church.
Members come from 10 cities/communities.
The Name: The name was suggested by one of the first members of the group, Joe Kargel. Joe and his wife, Lucille, were farmers. Joe suggested the name because on the farm it was not unusual to have worn tires retreaded and used again. The name Retreads was chosen because as members, 55 years and older, we are ready to keep going, we are ready to go around again.
Activities: The Retreads meet once a month, with the exception of July, on the first Friday of the month. We come together for prayer, a business meeting, a program of entertainment or information and a catered luncheon. Most of the meetings and luncheons are held at Guardian Angels Parish Center. However, we, as a group, go out to a restaurant in December for a Christmas Party and in May for a Spring Luncheon.
Joining with other groups in the area, Retreads members have gone on trips such as Mystery Trips for the day, as well as trips to see the Christmas lights, the fall colors, the shows at Branson, area churches on Holy Thursday. Members take turns serving on a monthly Luncheon Committee. The wonderful, catered luncheons held at Guardian Angels are $8.00
Dues: Dues are $10.00 for the year, payable in October.
