ELEMENTARY COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The elementary program will use Call to Faith from Harcourt Religion publishers. Call to Faith presents the content of the Catholic faith – drawn from Scripture and Tradition – in age appropriate ways, and features a carefully crafted activity strand in every chapter, to encourage children to share their faith, connect their faith, and live their faith. The themes covered in each grade level include God’s Covenant, A Faithful People, Life in Christ, The Church Teaches, Faithful Living, the Paschal Mystery and Judged on Love. Interspersed throughout the year are large group prayer services, small group prayer services, seasonal celebrations, a Christmas Pageant, and 3rd Grade Bible Presentations.
JUNIOR HIGH COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The Junior High program uses the Living Our Faith materials from Harcourt Religion Publishers. The 7th graders use the Jesus book, which concentrates on how Jesus Christ – as Teacher, Healer, Prophet and Savior – continues to inspire our lives. The 8th graders use the Morality book, which invites the students to reflect on their values, self-image, and relationships as Catholic Christians. In all of the Junior High books, the students also cover a section on Skills for Christian Living. In this section, the students learn about five different skill areas, including Religious Experience, Moral Decision Making, Emotional Management, Gospel Living (or Justice and Service) and Forecasting. Students are asked to learn about, evaluate their use, and practice the skill at the end of each chapter.
