Shared Ministry Position Description
Position: Early Childhood Faith Formation Catechist
Purpose of Position:
Teach (or co-teach) an Early Childhood Faith Formation class. Class consists of approximately 12 students. Typically catechists teach once a month and with a co-teacher.
Responsibilities:
Prepare the class lesson in advance.Teach (or co-teach) about five 60 minute classes from October – April. Attend training in September, VIRTUS training, background check and be familiar with the catechist handbook for specific duties. Receive and respond to communications from Faith Formation coordinator.
Qualifications:
Willingness to share their faith with young children. Ability to prepare a lesson from the chosen curriculum. Ability to lead and control a group of young children.
Amount of Time Required:
Fall training – 2-3 hours. Preparation – typically one hour per class about five times per year. Class time is 60-minutes meeting about 20 times during the months of October – April.
When Ministry is Performed:
Preparation time is anytime before the scheduled classes. Classes meet on Sundays at 9am.
Length of Commitment: One Faith Formation year from October –April.
Training Provided:
One 2-3 hour training session in September plus VIRTUS training session (3 hours).
