Shared Ministry Position Description
Position: 1st-8th Grade Faith Formation Catechist
Purpose of Position:
Teach a 1st-8th grade Faith Formation Class. Class consists of approximately 12 students (8-14) from one grade. Typically each class is assigned two co-catechists. Catechists may choose how they wish to share the responsibilities, but are encouraged to alternate preparing the lesson, and both attend each class.
Responsibilities:
Prepare, or co-prepare if co-teaching the class lesson in advance.Teach (or co-teach) twenty 75 minute classes from October – April. Attend training in September, VIRTUS training, background check and be familiar with the catechist handbook for specific duties. Receive and respond to communications from Faith Formation coordinator.
Qualifications:
Willingness to share their faith with young people. Ability to prepare a lesson from the chosen curriculum. Ability to lead and control a group of students.
Amount of Time Required:
Fall training – 2-3 hours. Preparation – typically one hour per class. If co-teaching, then about 8-10 times per year. Class time is 75-minutes meeting about 20 times during the months of October – April.
When Ministry is Performed:
Preparation time is anytime before the scheduled classes. Classes meet on Sundays at 10:15am-11:30am, or on Wednesdays from 6:15pm-7:30pm.
Length of Commitment: One Faith Formation year from October –April.
Training Provided:
One 2-3 hour training session in September. VIRTUS training session (3 hours).
